R & B Singer Creating Unsigned Hype In NYC Words: Davae Williams LLC
Determined to follow her dream, Sumeet left Canada during college and made the trek to Los Angeles. After numerous setbacks, drama, and shady deals, she found herself in New York City where she met the management/production duo Davae Williams. Sumeet has strong opinions about the quality of today’s music, although she won’t address any artist specifically. Instead, she simply states, “I’m trying to make a record of about twelve quality songs – not just a couple of singles and some album fillers. I want people to feel good about buying my CD.” With about three quarters of her album complete, Sumeet is already fielding offers from labels and music industry executives. “It’s really quite flattering, considering I haven’t even played a live show with my new material yet!” She continues, “People just seem to love the music. There’s a hunger out there for real songs with real emotions.” Sumeet notes artists such as Erykah Badu, Jill Scott and Angie Stone as some of her inspirations, and says she tries to approach her music with the same down-to-earth elegance. Her songs range from mid-tempo R&B ballads like Can’t Wait To See You (I Really Miss Your Style) featuring an electric guitar solo by Andre Netto, to You Blew it (C’est la Vie) a playful song about love ended. These tracks provide an ever-changing backdrop for her sound. “I don’t want all of my songs to sound the same, otherwise the work will become predictably me.” Working with 2004 Grammy nominated engineer Dave O’Donnell, Davae Williams has also produced Rush, a soul song with a beat reminiscent of Timbaland and the late Aaliyah's work. On the surface this song appears to be a creative take on love. However, it's true meaning is left up to the listener. "Oh, you’ll just have to figure it out yourself!" she says. Also with Mr. O'Donnell, Come Back To The Real World is an up-tempo, funk-based track still in the works. "It's about waking up one day, fed up, next to a man who’s got his head in the clouds thinking he's all Hollywood," Sumeet laughs. She has also collaborated with D. Besson & R. Dawkins of Brukkout Entertainment, showing off her range with the infectious reggae jam, Agony, featuring VP/Atlantic Records dancehall recording artist Elephant Man. A provocative fusion of hip-hop and dancehall music, this track tells the unabashed tale of a girl’s night out at a reggae club. Secret, also produced with Brukkout Entertainment, is a sexy club banger with a pulsating bass-line and seductive vocals, about a girl and her freaky secret. What about the rest of the album? Sumeet remains mysterious, saying that she hopes to explore with different sounds. “The only thing for certain is that I am going to keep trying to make every song better than my last.” Look for more information on Sumeet on www.sumeetmusic.com Dave O’Donnell: www.daveodonnell.net Brukkout Entertainment: www.brukkout.com :: Manhunt*com will be assisting Hope Gardens in it's 2nd Annual Food Outreach.
